A correct mount is what separates a 10-year install from one that leaks at month 18. This page covers the three install scenarios — sandwich-panel roof (drop-in), single-skin steel cab (needs reinforcement frame) and oversize opening (needs adapter plate) — plus torque and gasket spec.

Scenario 1: factory hatch in sandwich-panel roof

Most Class 8 sleepers, EU heavy trucks and modern vans have a sandwich-panel roof with factory reinforcement around the hatch opening. No additional frame needed. Bolt directly through existing M8 holes (or drill new ones on 410 × 410 mm bolt circle).

Scenario 2: single-skin steel cab

Older vocational trucks and some retrofits use a single-skin steel cab. Add an internal reinforcement frame: 40 × 40 × 3 mm steel angle, welded or pop-riveted around the cutout perimeter, with M8 captive nuts at each corner. Prime and paint exposed steel before install.

Scenario 3: oversize factory opening (adapter plate)

For 380, 400 or 420 mm factory openings, Vethy ships an aluminum adapter plate that fills the gap. The plate sits on the original opening edge with butyl tape; the Vethy unit then mounts on the plate. See cutout size by chassis for the right adapter.

Bolt torque and gasket sequence

1. Lay continuous butyl tape bead around the cutout perimeter (no gaps).
2. Place foam compression gasket on top of butyl.
3. Lower unit, finger-tighten all four M8 bolts.
4. Torque diagonally: FL → BR → FR → BL.
5. Final torque 8 to 10 N·m — do not over-torque (crushes gasket, causes leaks).
6. Re-check torque after first 500 km of road vibration.

How much weight does the bracket need to support?

VS02-PRO 42 kg + dynamic road loads ≈ 120 kg design load. The sandwich-panel reinforcement or 40 × 40 × 3 mm steel angle frame both handle this with margin.

Can I use silicone instead of butyl tape?

No. Silicone fails in UV. Always use butyl tape between the roof skin and unit flange.

How tight should the bolts be?

8 to 10 N·m. Over-torquing crushes the gasket and causes leaks; under-torquing causes vibration.
