Vethy rooftop parking ACs use a standard 360 × 360 mm (14 × 14 in) roof cutout — the same opening used by most factory roof hatches on Class 8 trucks, EU heavy tractors and many camper vans. This page covers the exact dimensions, gasket spec and reinforcement requirements for a clean install.

This page is a generic field troubleshooting guide for Vethy 12V/24V parking air conditioners. Always disconnect the battery before opening the unit and follow the install manual that shipped with your specific model. Refrigerant work (R410A) must be performed by a certified technician.

Exact cutout dimensions

• Opening: 360 × 360 mm (14.17 × 14.17 in), tolerance ±2 mm.
• Bolt circle: 410 × 410 mm corner-to-corner, M8 stainless.
• Roof thickness range: 30 to 80 mm (sandwich panel or single skin + reinforcement).
• Clearance above: 230 mm for the unit body.
• Clearance below: 65 mm for the evaporator and air return frame.

Roof reinforcement requirements

The Vethy VS02-PRO weighs 42 kg and the VM6000 Max 58 kg. On a single-skin steel cab roof, add an internal frame around the cutout (40 × 40 × 3 mm steel angle, welded or riveted). On sandwich-panel roofs (most Sprinter, Transit, Iveco, modern Class 8) the factory reinforcement around the existing hatch is sufficient.

Gasket and sealant

Vethy ships a butyl tape gasket roll + foam compression gasket with every unit. Use the butyl tape between the roof skin and the unit flange (continuous bead, no gaps). Do not substitute silicone sealant — it fails in UV after 12–24 months. See water leakage guide for why this matters.

Re-fitting from a factory roof hatch

Most Class 8 day-cabs and sleepers, DAF XF, Volvo FH, Scania, MAN, Sprinter high-roof and Transit factory roof hatches use the same 360 × 360 mm opening. In most cases the existing opening is a drop-in for Vethy VS02-PRO with new gasket. See also truck AC roof cutout size by chassis.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enlarge an existing smaller hatch to 360 × 360 mm?

Yes if the roof has adequate clearance from cab cross-members. Cut with a fine-tooth jigsaw, deburr, prime exposed steel, then install.

What if my hatch is bigger than 360 × 360 mm?

Vethy ships an adapter plate kit for openings up to 400 × 400 mm. Larger openings need a custom adapter — contact us with dimensions.

Does the cutout location affect aerodynamics?

On Class 8 tractors, mount the unit at the rear of the sleeper roof behind the cab fairing to minimize drag. On day cabs, the centerline is fine.

Will it fit a fiberglass aero kit?

Yes if the aero kit clears 230 mm above the roof skin around the cutout. Most flat-top sleeper aero kits are compatible.
