A battery can be large enough for one rest period while the charging arrangement is too slow for repeated operation. When runtime declines over consecutive shifts, compare energy used each day with energy actually restored before the next rest period.
Look for a repeating deficit
Consider an illustrative fleet schedule that uses 3.2 kWh during each cooling period but restores only 2.6 kWh before the next one. The daily shortfall is 0.6 kWh. After three such cycles, the cumulative shortfall is 1.8 kWh, ignoring other changes. These are invented values to explain the arithmetic, not a product test.
A full initial charge can hide this mismatch. Replacing the battery with a larger bank may delay the symptom without correcting the daily balance. Before buying more storage, measure what the current system is doing.
Log the complete work cycle
Record energy or a suitable battery-state measurement at the start and end of cooling, after driving, and after depot charging. Note the length of each charging opportunity and any period when charging is limited or unavailable. Include other loads sharing the bank.
Regional delivery operations deserve particular attention because the driving and waiting pattern may vary from day to day. Volvo's 2026 VNR production announcement is a reminder that regional use is a distinct application; a generic long-haul operating assumption should not determine its cooling-energy plan.
Check the charging path
Ask the installer to verify the approved charging arrangement, equipment settings, battery compatibility and vehicle restrictions. The rating printed on a charger is not proof of the average energy delivered over a short route. Battery charge acceptance and the actual available operating time matter.
Do not bypass a protective device or change a battery cutoff simply to extend runtime. A cutoff is a symptom to investigate alongside the energy record and the manufacturer's instructions.
Choose the corrective action from the evidence
If daily replenishment is insufficient, possible project changes include a longer approved charging opportunity, a properly specified charging arrangement or a revised cooling duty. If replenishment is adequate but usable capacity has fallen, investigate battery condition and other loads. The correct response depends on the measurements.
Repeat the trial over several representative working days, including the busiest normal schedule. A stable daily starting condition is a better acceptance signal than a single successful overnight demonstration.
Next step
Compare the available configurations in the Vethy product catalog, then request the current model-specific documentation before selecting a unit.
