Parking AC Making Loud Noise — Fix Guide
A parking AC suddenly running louder than normal usually points to one of five mechanical issues: loose mounting hardware, imbalanced fan blade, refrigerant flow noise, compressor bearing wear, or a degraded rooftop gasket whistling at highway speed.

Rattle — loose mounting bolts and fasteners

Inspect all rooftop bolts, cabinet screws and ductwork brackets. A single loose M6 bolt can resonate at 50–80 Hz and sound like a major fault. Torque to spec (typical 6–8 N·m for M6, 12–15 N·m for M8). Use thread-locker on critical fasteners.

Vibration hum — fan blade imbalance

A condenser or evaporator fan blade with chipped tip, ice damage or insect-residue buildup goes out of balance. Inspect, clean, or replace. Replacement fan blades are USD 15–30.

Whine — refrigerant flow noise

A high-pitched whine after start-up usually means refrigerant overcharge or non-condensables (air) in the system. Requires recovery, evacuation and proper recharge by a licensed technician.

Knock — compressor bearing or slugging

A metallic knock from the outdoor section indicates either liquid-slugging on startup (oil migration) or bearing wear. Slugging fix: ensure 24-hour pre-power oil-settle after transport. Bearing wear: compressor replacement.

Whistle — rooftop gasket degradation

A whistling noise only at highway speed usually means the rooftop EPDM gasket has degraded and air is forcing past. Replace the gasket and re-torque mounting bolts.

Quiet-mode and night-mode settings

All four VS02 PRO / ZH 1000 / VC 1000 / VC 2000 models have a 'sleep' or 'quiet' mode that drops fan speed and compressor frequency to <44 dB(A) at 1 m. Use during overnight rest periods. Frequently asked questions

How many dB is normal for a parking AC?

Steady-state cooling: 48–55 dB(A) at 1 m. Quiet/sleep mode: 42–46 dB(A). Anything above 58 dB(A) indicates a fault.

Why does my parking AC vibrate the whole cab?

Rigid mounting transmits compressor vibration to the chassis. Use the supplied rubber isolators and re-torque all bolts. Add anti-vibration foam between mounting plate and roof skin.

Is a rattling rooftop AC dangerous?

Yes if unaddressed — loose hardware can fall into the roadway. Inspect and torque immediately.

Can I lubricate the fan motor bearings?

Modern parking AC fan motors are sealed ball-bearing units. Lubrication is not field-serviceable. Replace if noisy.

Does running in eco-mode reduce noise?

Yes — eco-mode caps compressor frequency at ~70% and drops fan to medium, reducing noise by 4–6 dB(A).

Does Vethy supply quieter replacement fan blades?

Yes — sickle-shaped low-noise fan upgrade kits available for VS02 PRO and VC series. Email service@vethy.com or call +86-532-87729918 for service manuals, spare-parts catalogues and warranty support within 24 hours.
