Parking AC Compressor Will Not Start

Why your DC inverter compressor refuses to start — voltage, IPM, capacitor, controller and lock-rotor diagnostics for 12V and 24V parking AC.

Parking AC Compressor Will Not Start
When a parking AC fan runs but the DC inverter compressor refuses to start, the root cause is almost always one of six items: supply voltage below threshold, controller lockout from prior fault, IPM (intelligent power module) failure, locked rotor, blown DC fuse, or a stuck high-pressure switch. This guide gives the field measurement and decision tree for each.

Check 1 — Supply voltage and DC fuse

VS02 PRO 24V models: verify ≥22.5V at the controller input with the system in 'cool' mode (not just battery posts). ZH 1000 12V models: ≥11.5V. Check the inline DC fuse (typically 40A for 12V, 25A for 24V). A blown fuse usually indicates a downstream short — find the short before replacing.

Check 2 — Controller fault lockout

Modern DC inverter controllers store the last fault and refuse restart until cleared. Power-cycle the unit at the fuse for 60 seconds. If the compressor starts and runs >5 min, the prior fault has cleared. If it locks out again, read the diagnostic code.

Check 3 — IPM (Intelligent Power Module) failure

If you hear the controller relay click but the compressor never spins, the IPM may be in protection or failed. Diagnostic: with the unit off, check resistance between U-V, V-W, W-U motor leads — should be equal ±5%. Imbalance >10% indicates a stator fault.

Check 4 — Locked rotor / mechanical seizure

Cold-soak after a refrigerant overcharge can cause liquid slugging, locking the compressor rotor. Try a soft-start sequence (warm cabin to 30°C, then re-attempt start). If still locked, the compressor needs replacement.

Check 5 — High-pressure switch open

If the HP switch is open (>3.0 MPa), the controller blocks compressor start. Cause: condenser fan failed or condenser blocked. Diagnose airflow first.

Check 6 — Capacitor / soft-start circuit

On older fixed-speed parking AC, a failed run capacitor prevents start. Discharge and measure capacitance with a multimeter. Replace if >10% out of nameplate value.

When to replace vs repair the compressor

DC inverter compressors are field-non-serviceable. If diagnostics confirm IPM or stator failure, replace the entire compressor assembly. Email service@vethy.com or call +86-532-87729918 for service manuals, spare-parts catalogues and warranty support within 24 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How can I tell if the compressor or controller is faulty?

Swap the controller harness onto a known-good unit and test. If the new unit starts, the controller is the culprit. If not, the compressor is the issue.

Why does my compressor start then stop after 5 seconds?

Classic low-voltage trip. The inrush current drops supply below LVD. Upsize battery cable or add a DC bus capacitor bank at the AC input.

Can I bypass the high-pressure switch to force start?

Never. The HP switch protects the compressor and condenser from over-pressure damage. Fix the airflow or refrigerant issue instead.

Is the DC inverter compressor field-replaceable?

Yes — Vethy supplies plug-and-play compressor assemblies with refrigerant pre-charge. Replacement takes 2–3 hours with standard refrigeration tools.

What is the warranty on the compressor?

24 months from invoice date for OEM partners, 12 months for spare-part purchases. Defective units replaced on RMA basis.

How do I read the diagnostic code?

All four VS02 PRO / ZH 1000 / VC 1000 / VC 2000 models have a 7-segment display or LED blink pattern on the indoor unit. Email service@vethy.com or call +86-532-87729918 for service manuals, spare-parts catalogues and warranty support within 24 hours.
